Bio

Emerging from a solid background in the Rock’n Roll, Rhythm & Blues and the 1960’s Jazz Renaissance Movement in London, Canada, which led to a lengthy engagement at Expo ’67 in Montreal, Tim’s musical career has included shows with Roy Orbison, Ronnie Hawkins, Sherisse Lawrence and a musical directorship with two former members of “The Platters”.

He toured North America as music director of the showband “Explosion” who were part of the entertainment for Ronald Reagan’s Republican Party Convention in Detroit/Windsor, and the Terry Fox Run/Special Olympics Celebration in Sault Ste Marie in 1980.

For fifteen years, Tim augmented his professional performances with a career in Music Education for two school boards and a Community College in Hull, Quebec. His “Heritage College Big Band” won Gold in the Canadian Stage Band Competition, performed twice in the Ottawa International Jazz Festival and was commissioned by Duke Ellington’s family to perform some of Ellington’s religious works with his children, Edward and April Ellington (”Savoy Ellingtons”).

Tim was the featured reed-player with the “Savoy Ellingtons”, working in two Montreal International Jazz Festivals and opening the 1996 Baie Comeau Jazz Festival with them. Also with them, he performed a special commemorative featuring Ellington’s Sacred Music, hosted by the US Consul-General, on the first anniversary of 9/11 in Montreal.

Recently, he has performed with Dan Ackroyd in his Elroy Blues persona and the legendary Funk Brothers who were the studio musicians for most of the Motown hits in the 60’s and 70’s. He is also a performer/producer with Perth, Ontario original band, “Tell Mama ~ Kick Ass Jass”.

Currently, Tim performs with “The Brian Downey Big Band”, his own venues, and as a clarinetist with the Communications and Electronics Garrison Military Band in Kingston, Ontario. He tours with award-winning British blues guitarist Otis Grand and is active as an “Artist in Residence” with the Ottawa International Bluesfest “Blues in the Schools” program as well as teaching music for the Limestone District School Board. He is also actively involved with the La Salle Secondary School Adult Concert Band, an Intergenerational Learning Project directed by Chris Alfano.

His unique sound can be heard on many Ottawa/Kingston-produced CD’s including the Galaxy Radio #1 hit “Fire and Soul”, Ila Vann’s “Can’t Help Loving…”, Ross Mclaughlan’s “Not Just Ragtime” and others.
